Here are some common questions I am asked, with simple answers and guidelines to help you keep your hair in the best condition possible.
It also helps to understand why we ask so many questions before we begin to work on your hair, we just want you to leave happy!
- How often should I get my hair cut?
Every 6 weeks to keep a shape and remove split ends. This will help stop breakage and tangles. Even if you are growing your hair you still need to remove ends to stop it splitting and keep it healthy.
- What is the difference between supermarket shampoo and salon shampoo?
The ingredients and the quality. The shampoo I use is vegan and the bottles are recyclable. They are sulphate and paraben free. They are very concentrated so last longer making them cost effective. They also have a pump top for ease of use.
- How can i stop my colour fading?
You can use a colour shampoo which be gentle on the hair and free of harsh detergents. Try to wash your hair as little as possible. Unfortunately colour will always fade to some degree but this will help.
- How do I wash my hair properly ?
When you wash your hair remember to wash the scalp not just the hair. If your scalp is dry you can rub conditioner in to moisturise as the scalp is skin and sometimes needs moisture too. Ensure to rinse well and move the hair around so the water can get through.
- How can I protect my hair in summer?
We always use sun screen but its easy to forget our hair. Products containing UVA and UVB filters. This will stop damage, colour fading and hair feeling dry.
- Why shouldn’t I colour my hair at home?
Salon products and home products contain different formulations. As a hairstylist we are trained in making a unique formulation for each person based on hair history, texture and desired result. If cost is an issue I can suggest an easy maintenance cost effective service that will work for you.
- When having hair colour why do stylist like to know the hair history ?
It helps determine how the hair will react to the colour. It helps me decide on application, what products to use, how long it will take for booking adequate time. Planning the process before I start will help to give an accurate quote and a better result.
- Why do colours vary in price ?
Cost of colour is based on time for service, amount of product used and application/ method. Processing time also plays a part as does the texture of the hair and desired result.
- Can i bring photos?
Yes I love it when people bring inspiration. It ensures we both have the same vision.
- I don’t know hair terminology and find it hard to explain what i want. Can you help ?
The consultation process will help. I am trained to ask the correct questions which will give me the correct information I need to give you a style to suit you.
- Why do you only have one client at a time ?
I like it to be a personal experience for the client. There is less pressure for me as the stylist as I don’t feel rushed and more of an enjoyable experience for the client.
- How do you stay current ?
I have a team of stylist across the uk I have online sessions with. I also have in salon training every 2 months with stylists who travel the world keeping up with the latest techniques and products.
